Key Lime Pie Ice Cream

Fresh Key Lime Pie Ice Cream

Fresh lime juice can work in your favor! It has such a distinct and robust flavor when added to things like cream and baked goods. And, you’re adding much needed vitamin C to your meals.

Use only fresh lime. Never use the concentrated version of lime juice. The processing of that stuff is not natural and there are the highest levels of sulfites in any item around. Just Gross!

I’m going to try making some ice cream that taste like Key lime pie this week, as well as baking with it, and using it for one of my favorite sauces.

Let's get juicing and get to work!

One of the best tools I have for making all natural goods is my ice cream maker. I use a Cuisinart ice cream maker, but there are many great brands out there for you to choose from.

All of my ice cream recipes start with three-quarter cup of cane sugar and one cup of milk. I use whole milk but you can use skim or 1% or 2% if you'd like.

You will whisk this to combine and then add your pint of heavy cream and stir again. The next step would be to add your flavoring, always natural of course. And then add the juice or flavor that you are working with.

Whole fruit works, but best to sauté it down with a little sugar and make a fruit compote, and chill it before you add it to your ice cream mixture.

In this case, I will be adding about a quarter cup of lime juice from fresh limes and 1 Tablespoon of vanilla extract. You can use regular limes or the tiny key limes, whatever you have is fine.

That is it!

That's what makes it so natural, the very simple ingredients and not too many of them. The goal here is to get away from the mass produced ice cream that we see in our grocery stores and to be honest even the ice cream that is sold at homemade ice cream shops. They often add unnecessary ingredients, too.

The best part is for about the same price, you can make your own homemade ice cream with real ingredients and allergen free for you!

Will you sandwich your ice cream between two graham crackers or shortbread cookies for the real key lime pie experience?
