Nickel Free Denim

Nickel Free Denim

Who knew that some clothing companies actually tested for nickel?

I was very happy to find out that The Gap Companies, including Old Navy, Banana Republic and Athleta have been testing for nickel in their clothing. Zippers, grommets, buttons and snaps should be considered safe when buying from these brands.

Another great accessible company that also tests for Nickel is Levis and I sure love my Levis 501 jeans. They are the best fitting jeans on me and I couldn't be happier to find out that they are nickel safe jeans.

When shopping with sensitivities it is important to remember that cotton, rayon, silk and other natural fabrics are less likely to contain nickel and another allergy offender, cobalt. Steer clear of polyester, acrylics and other synthetic fibers due to the different makeup of these fabrics. There's a reason so many of us itch when we wear them.

Some people also have a a reaction to the polyester thread used on the production of garments. If this is the case for you, it's best to try an all organic cotton brand, like Pact.

Good luck, with your search for comfort!
